College Program

The Eagle Academy College Prep Program provides a programmatic action plan from 9th -12th grade. Our goal is to provide college exposure, awareness of college options, and guidance through the college admissions process. The College Prep Program provides a comprehensive and systemic approach to ensure that our students have the maximum opportunity for college acceptance and the ability to excel in the college environment. We provide pre-entrance information, college exposure, and support after our students graduate from the Eagle Academy.  We recognize that high scores on standardized tests are often weighed heavily in the college admissions process and SAT prep begins in 10th grade for all students.

For most of our students, they will be the first person in their household to attend college. Therefore, these young men have not grown up with first-hand knowledge about the college admissions process and best practices for experiencing success once they have been admitted.  Students are encouraged to consider their choices, and to understand the range of consequences for those decisions. While students are taken to local colleges, they are also taken to out-of-state colleges. Senior and Junior students are also engaged in summer on campus programs to assist with the transition to college. The idea behind this method is to provide students with a broad view of their options. Students get to talk with college students and their advisors about life-choices and future aspirations. At the colleges, students meet with other students who act as hosts, and get to evaluate each college's facility to address their desired field of study. For most of our students, this opens a whole world of choices for their future.

Our college advisor instructs our College Knowledge 101 class. This introductory discussion covers why college is important, types of colleges and universities, various degree and majors, and other important topics. College Knowledge 101 is a mandatory course for all Eagle students.  The Eagle Academy college exposure program takes an unprecedented approach to the college tour experience. While students are taken to local colleges, they are also taken to out-of-state colleges and universities. Providing maximum exposure for these students to alternative choices for college study broadens the scope of their thinking and opens a door that, in many underserved communities, may have seemed to be beyond their reach.
