Extended Day Program

One of the central tenets of the Eagle Academy is to promote experiential learning through our Extended Learning Forum.  This exciting initiative offers our students exciting, comprehensive and challenging activities that foster higher overall academic achievement.  Research indicates that between the hours of 3:00 pm – 8:00 pm, unsupervised peer activities too often are filled with dangerous mischief, initiations to gangs or ventures into other antisocial activities. The Extended Learning Forum offers an effective alternative for young men through programs that challenge, mind, body and spirit.

The Extended Day is equivalent to an extra class or two and the Saturday Institute is equivalent to one additional half-day of instruction. Conducted in a workshop environment, students find that school formalities are relaxed and an emphasis is placed on self-discipline and leadership.  Focusing on the "whole child," the extended day and the extended week allow for varied leadership training, cultural development, and intergenerational exchanges with the male mentors who volunteer to buddy one-on-one with each young man.

We consider the Extended Learning Forum to be a must-have program to ensure academic and social success for young men as they pass through adolescence and grow to maturity. Enrichment activities serve our young men with opportunities for hands-on academic, social, cultural, athletic, financial and sports activities that complement the weekly day program at the Eagle Academy for Young Men. The extended time supports the day program, stimulates the creative spirit, offers challenges that hone mind and body while providing a safe haven for our young men long after most schools dismiss their students and lock the doors.
